[Data] 41 lanes, 900 data points, transit temperature by carrier

Data Well Actually ×2 Sourced ×1

41 lanes, 900 data points, transit temperature by carrier. It is the sort of thing everyone half-believes and nobody writes down.

Wrote the reconstitution date on the vial for the first time last year. Have never once since wondered how old a solution is.

Split an order across two months deliberately to compare summer and winter transit on the same lane. Four days difference, same carrier.

What actually matters, in order, because these threads always start at the wrong end.

State first: dry powder is comparatively robust, reconstituted solution is not. Most of the anxiety here is about powder and most of the real risk is about solution.

Then evidence: a warm gel pack is evidence about the pack. A logger is evidence about the box. Only a test is evidence about the material. People routinely reason from the first to the third and it does not follow.

Then prevention, which is dull and effective: shorter lanes where regional stock exists, rigid packaging, the middle of the fridge rather than the door, and the reconstitution date written on the glass.

Sceptical readings welcome. The confident ones are the ones I distrust.

Lyophilisation removes the water that drives most degradation pathways. That is why the dry cake is comparatively robust and the reconstituted solution is not.

How many days in transit, and which month?

Do you know what storage condition the stability statement covers?

Where in the fridge is it sitting now?

You cannot infer potency from a temperature record. The record tells you what happened to the box; only a test tells you what happened to the material.

A stability statement is only meaningful with its conditions attached: temperature, duration, light exposure, and whether it covers powder or solution. Ask which.

That is a lane problem rather than a packaging problem, and the fixes are different.

lyophilised powder is far more forgiving than the panic threads suggest

Put a logger in three consecutive orders. Two never went above the range at all and the third spent four hours warm on a Friday. Cost me almost nothing to stop wondering.

a summer lane and a winter lane are different lanes

Yes — a logger in the box turns a fortnight of speculation into a chart.

Left up and added to the lane table. Origin, destination and month were all included, which is all we ask.

Gel pack fully liquid on arrival, powder tested 98.1% against a claimed 97.5% afterwards. The pack had done its job for as long as it was designed to.

Ordered from the warehouse in Denmark instead of origin and the transit went from a fortnight to 7 days. Entirely different proposition in August.

Adding the practical version: ask which lines are held regionally before you order in July.

Right, and asking what the stability statement was written against is one line of email that reframes everything.

the door shelf is the worst place in the fridge

Temperature and stability in the real world: what an excursion actually costs you, why lyophilised powder is far more forgiving than reconstituted solution, how to read a logger CSV, and how to photograph a failed shipment so the conversation with the vendor is short.
