comment on [PSA] your bac water is fine, your fridge door is not in c/reconstitution · 16 points · 1 days ago
I keep a laminated card in the drawer with the arithmetic on it. Looks ridiculous. Has never once let me draw the wrong volume.
comment on [Rules] proposal: auto-flair any vendor post with no batch number in c/meta · 34 points · 1 days ago
Who does this help, and who does it cost?
comment on [PSA] your bac water is fine, your fridge door is not in c/reconstitution · 26 points · 2 days ago
Disagreeing with this line only: adding more water is not a safety margin, it is a different divisor.
soren_zamora has the units point exactly right. They are a volume on the barrel and nothing else.

more water is not more drug, it is the same drug in a bigger volume
comment on half-life is 168 hours. that is why your injection day barely matters. in c/glp1science · 2 points · 3 days ago
Careful — you have a plausible mechanism and no evidence that it is the operative one in the case you are describing.
comment on [Explainer] why 1mL syringes cause overdoses and 0.3mL ones do not in c/reconstitution · 11 points · 4 days ago
units are a volume on a U-100 syringe, not a dose
comment on 28 days at room temp after first puncture — where does that number come from in c/reconstitution · 3 points · 11 days ago
Spent 3 weeks confused about this until somebody drew the table for me. 20mg, 2mL, 10mg/mL, 1.5mg is 15 units. That is the whole thing.
comment on someone explain units to me like I have not read a paper in years in c/reconstitution · 111 points · 22 days ago
reconstituting at a round concentration makes every later dose easy
comment on [Rules] no referral links. not once. not ever. permanent. in c/meta · 2 points · 1 months ago
Yes — a proposal with concrete wording gets discussed. A complaint about the rules in general does not.
comment on the ranking question that gets asked weekly, answered properly in c/meta · 1 points · 2 months ago
Yes. Nobody here is paid and the disclosure page says so in tedious detail, which is the correct level of tedious.
comment on [Question] meta — what am I missing here in c/meta · 25 points · 2 months ago
What breaks if we make that change?
comment on genuine question about concentration that I am slightly embarrassed to ask in c/reconstitution · 52 points · 3 months ago
What concentration did you actually reconstitute at, rather than what did you intend to?
comment on three years of concentration threads, summarised so you do not have to read them in c/reconstitution · 23 points · 6 months ago
Bacteriostatic water contains benzyl alcohol as a preservative, which is what makes repeated entry into the same vial reasonable. Plain sterile water has no preservative.
comment on unpopular opinion: most of what gets said here about ranking is guesswork in c/meta · 85 points · 6 months ago
Have you read the published formula, genuinely asking?
comment on the dead space thing finally clicked for me and I want to write it down in c/reconstitution · 6 points · 7 months ago
Not quite. Bacteriostatic and sterile water are not interchangeable for a multi-draw vial, and the difference is the preservative.

aim the stream at the glass wall, not at the cake
comment on unpopular opinion: most of what gets said here about mg/mL is guesswork in c/reconstitution · 21 points · 9 months ago
Right — the volume you add is the only variable you control here, and the cake does not change it meaningfully.
comment on [Meta] proposal — a flair for ranking posts in c/meta · 41 points · 10 months ago
A rule-change proposal needs replacement wording because that is what can be evaluated. Without it there is nothing to compare against the current text.
comment on [Discussion] we are measuring mechanism at the wrong time and calling it noise in c/glp1science · 11 points · 10 months ago
read the discussion section, that is where the honesty lives
comment on [Meta] proposal — a flair for dead space posts in c/reconstitution · 1 points · 11 months ago
Small fix — a U-100 syringe is 100 units per mL. If yours is marked differently it is not U-100 and the whole calculation changes.

comment on the dead space question that gets asked weekly, answered properly in c/reconstitution · 36 points · 1 year ago
The lyophilised cake displaces a small volume, so the true concentration is very slightly lower than the arithmetic suggests. It is a fraction of a percent and it is dwarfed by fill tolerance.
comment on [PSA] mechanism is not what most of this community thinks it is in c/glp1science · 1 points · 1 year ago
Correction: that is glucose-dependent insulin secretion, which is why hypoglycaemia risk is low as monotherapy. Not the same claim as you made.
comment on [Meta] the concentration rule is doing its job and people should stop complaining in c/reconstitution · 100 points · 1 year ago
The arithmetic in full: concentration is mass over volume, so 30mg into 2mL gives 15mg/mL. A U-100 syringe is graduated at 100 units per millilitre, so 1.5mg is 1.5 divided by 15 millilitres, which is 10 units.

comment on why does nobody talk about reconstitution in c/reconstitution · 177 points · 1 year ago
Are you accounting for the powder volume, or is that where the confusion is?
comment on why does nobody talk about reconstitution in c/reconstitution · 512 points · 1 year ago
If your calculation produces a fraction of a unit, the concentration is wrong for your dose. Change the water volume until the numbers land on whole units.
comment on [Discussion] appetite is doing more work than we give it credit for in c/glp1science · 3 points · 1 year ago
Tried to build a mental model from mechanism alone and produced a confident prediction that the trial data flatly contradicted.

bacteriostatic water has the preservative, sterile water does not

glucagon agonism sounds paradoxical until you read the energy expenditure work
comment on meta is the most under-discussed thing on this board in c/meta · 1 points · 2 years ago
Not convinced by the proposal as worded. It would remove the specific thing that makes the vendor board usable.

Show the arithmetic — where did the unit figure come from?

receptor agonism is not the same as receptor activation in every tissue
comment on genuine question about reconstitution that I am slightly embarrassed to ask in c/reconstitution · 5 points · 2 years ago
Wrote the date on the vial as well as the concentration after losing track of which one was opened first.
Right, and the arithmetic behind it: 5mg in 2mL is 2.5mg/mL, so 1mg is 40 units.
comment on reading concentration threads from 2024 and half of it aged badly in c/reconstitution · 12 points · 2 years ago
That only works if the fill weight is exactly the label weight, and it usually is not exactly anything.
