comment on mg ÷ mL, that is the whole formula, why did i find this hard in c/reconstitution · 17 points · 2 days ago

label the vial with the date as well as the concentration

reconstituting at a round concentration makes every later dose easy

comment on [Meta] how the ranking actually works, with the formula in c/meta · 9 points · 16 days ago

Read the ranking formula out of scepticism and reproduced the ordering in a spreadsheet. It does what it says.

comment on reconstituted at 1mL instead of 2mL and caught it before injecting. lucky. in c/reconstitution · 50 points · 17 days ago

Careful — that arithmetic is wrong. 5mg in 3mL is 1.67mg/mL, so 0.75mg draws to 45 units, not what you wrote.

Disagree with loosening that. The evidence rule is why a supplier report here means something.

Feed position is a function of early votes and time. That structurally favours agreeable early answers over correct late ones, which is why sorting by controversial occasionally is worth the effort.

If your calculation produces a fraction of a unit, the concentration is wrong for your dose. Change the water volume until the numbers land on whole units.

Yes. Clothes fitting differently arrives well before the scale acknowledges anything.

permalink

comment on why does nobody talk about concentration in c/reconstitution · 20 points · 5 months ago

Agreed — units are volume. Once that lands, the rest of the arithmetic is one division.

permalink

comment on the units thing finally clicked for me and I want to write it down in c/reconstitution · 43 points · 6 months ago

if the maths gives you a fraction of a unit, change the concentration

Nothing on this board is medical advice, and rate, target and method are questions for somebody who knows your history.

permalink

comment on does non-scale victory actually matter or is it forum lore at this point in c/progresspics · 4 points · 7 months ago

Not convinced comparison helps here. The people posting the fastest results are the tail of a distribution, not the middle.

Correction: that gives 20 units, not what you have written. 5mg into 1mL is 5mg/mL and the division follows from there.

Spent 3 weeks confused about this until somebody drew the table for me. 10mg, 2mL, 5mg/mL, 2.5mg is 50 units. That is the whole thing.

bacteriostatic water has the preservative, sterile water does not

permalink

comment on genuine question about timeframe that I am slightly embarrassed to ask in c/progresspics · 5 points · 10 months ago

Agreed — text only was the best rule this board ever adopted. The posts are about what actually changed rather than about lighting.

units are a volume on a U-100 syringe, not a dose

more water is not more drug, it is the same drug in a bigger volume

Disagreeing with this line only: adding more water is not a safety margin, it is a different divisor.

comment on the bacteriostatic water question that gets asked weekly, answered properly in c/reconstitution · 251 points · 1 year ago

Aim the stream down the wall of the vial rather than into the cake. Reconstitution is a solubility problem, not a mixing problem, and mechanical shear does nothing helpful.

Started reconstituting everything to a round concentration and the six-in-the-morning error rate went to zero.

This. Showing the working is the fastest way for somebody else to spot the mistake.

permalink

comment on [Meta] the concentration rule is doing its job and people should stop complaining in c/reconstitution · 296 points · 1 year ago

I keep a laminated card in the drawer with the arithmetic on it. Looks ridiculous. Has never once let me draw the wrong volume.

permalink

comment on [Question] reconstitution — what am I missing here in c/reconstitution · 8 points · 1 year ago

Agreed on the swirl.

Adding one thing — put the date on the label too. Concentration plus date and you can never mix two vials up.

What concentration did you actually reconstitute at, rather than what did you intend to?

This. Waist measurement kept moving through my longest stall and it was the only thing that kept me sane.

Research-use-only material is not approved for human use, so treat everything in this thread as arithmetic about solutions rather than instructions for a person.

a U-100 syringe reads 100 units to the millilitre, every time

This is the sentence that makes the rest unnecessary. Write it on the vial and the problem is gone.
