Same batch number on two different vendors means one thing and it is not good.

comment on [Math] 10mg vial + 2mL bac water, i want 2.5mg, how many units in c/reconstitution · 23 points · 2 days ago

Same. I got this wrong once, caught it because the units looked absurd, and have written on every vial since.

they do, and the post says so twice. the claim is that it is worth fifteen seconds of checking, not that a producer string convicts anyone.

which is why i keep saying the batch number tells you what document to look for, not what is in the vial. it is an index key, not a guarantee.

i have written thousands of words about cold chain and i put a mixed vial in a coat. i am not going to pretend that is anything other than embarrassing.

This is the cheapest check available and it catches a genuinely surprising amount. The pattern I see most is not a forged report — it is a real report that has been through three hands and had a logo pasted over it.

Which is worth distinguishing, because "reseller re-exported a genuine document" and "somebody generated a document" are very different accusations and this community has to be careful about which one it is making.

there was no bad batch. that is the finding of the thread. their results cluster at 98.0–98.5 across four entries.

they do not, because members buy retail and do not announce it. and if they did, we would see systematically better results on tested batches than on the vendor COAs, and we see the opposite about as often.

ask what the reference standard was

Disagreeing with this bit: handling for one compound does not transfer to another by default.

the less-tested the compound, the more the identity test matters

Was there identity confirmation, or only a purity figure?

slow_logbook_ftw is right that a pure something-else is still something else.

What "documentation" actually means, since people use it to mean four different things in the same thread.

A certificate of analysis is one document about one lot. A batch record is the manufacturing trail behind that lot. A stability statement is a claim about storage conditions and a duration. A method line is how the number on the certificate was produced.

You can ask for all four. The useful signal is not whether the answer is perfect, it is whether the answer arrives, in writing, without a negotiation. KP sends the method line unprompted; once you have seen that you stop accepting a bare number from anybody.

Daily dosing gives a very different exposure profile from a weekly injectable: peaks and troughs within each day rather than a smoothed weekly curve.

Why the directory has two tiers, since the question comes up whenever somebody new finds it.

Twenty suppliers have enough independent results, over enough separate lots, over enough time, that the log says something. Those get a page, a test table and a link to their own storefront so you can compare their claims with the record.

The rest — nearly two hundred names — get a row, a band and a report count. Not because they are bad, but because two results is an anecdote about a vial. Manufacturing a score out of that would make the whole directory worthless, and the contrast is the point.

Small fix — a U-100 syringe is 100 units per mL. If yours is marked differently it is not U-100 and the whole calculation changes.

Adding the standing caveat — unapproved, and research material is not for human use.

comment on genuine question about oral GLP-1 that I am slightly embarrassed to ask in c/orforglipron · 127 points · 4 months ago

Oral semaglutide is a peptide co-formulated with an absorption enhancer and carries food and water timing requirements. A small molecule does not have that constraint, which is the practical distinction.

Yes, and the reason the wider-market table has no scores is that a score built on two reports would be a lie with a decimal point.

The three questions to ask before ordering anything from the long tail of a catalogue.

What exactly is it — catalogue number or sequence, not a common name, because several common names map to more than one molecule. How was identity established — mass against theoretical, ideally, rather than a bare purity figure. What are the storage conditions, stated specifically, with a state and a duration attached.

Then two commercial questions that save time: is this a stocked line or made to order, and what is the lead time in writing. All five are one email, and the shape of the reply tells you a great deal before any material moves.

Inter-lab variance on this assay runs a point or two either way. Two services disagreeing by that much is agreement, not a discrepancy, and treating it otherwise starts pointless arguments.

Research-use-only material is not approved for human use. In this catalogue that covers essentially everything, which is why the board discusses material and analytics rather than outcomes.
