comment on [Question] does carrier choice matter more than origin city in c/intlshipping · 0 points · 4 days ago

That is the quoted lead time, not the observed transit. Both belong in the report and they are different columns.

Yes — median rather than best case. The fastest anybody ever got is not a plan.

comment on Spain: carrier, and what it actually costs here in c/intlshipping · 129 points · 28 days ago

Median transit is the useful statistic. The minimum is a story about one shipment and the mean is dragged around by a single hold.

comment on [PSA] EMS is not what most of this community thinks it is in c/intlshipping · 104 points · 1 months ago

Asked QSC which lines they hold regionally before ordering and got a straight list back. Changed what I ordered and when.

comment on [Question] New Zealand — has anyone got a straight answer on lane in c/intlshipping · 3 points · 3 months ago

Origin, destination, carrier and month?

This is why the lane table is organised the way it is. The supplier is not the unit.

comment on [Discussion] we are measuring packaging at the wrong time and calling it noise in c/intlshipping · 32 points · 3 months ago

Disagree. That is a customs hold, not a carrier delay, and lumping them together makes the lane table wrong.

comment on unpopular opinion: most of what gets said here about carrier is guesswork in c/intlshipping · 7 points · 11 months ago

This. A quoted lead time that holds is worth more than a fast one that does not.

comment on [Discussion] reship is doing more work than we give it credit for in c/intlshipping · 32 points · 1 year ago

Careful — the supplier does not control the last mile and most of your variance is in it.

comment on [Question] DHL — what am I missing here in c/intlshipping · 88 points · 1 year ago

Where did the time actually go — international leg, clearance, or last mile?

Not convinced by four data points. That is not a lane yet, it is an anecdote with a route attached.

customs clearance time is not carrier time and they get conflated

Adding the field everyone forgets — the month. Without it the report is not comparable to anything.

regional stock changes everything about transit
