comment on [Explainer] confirmations, memos, and the three ways to lose money by typo in c/cryptopay · 18 points · 2 days ago

What is and is not the supplier’s fault, since this board generates unfair complaints.

Not theirs: the network fee, chain congestion, confirmation time, the rate moving between quote and send, and a payment sent on the wrong chain. Theirs: which networks they accept, how quickly they credit a confirmed payment, and whether the address they gave you was correct and communicated clearly.

Keeping those columns separate makes the reports here far more useful. A thread titled "supplier took my payment" that turns out to describe forty minutes of unconfirmed transaction helps nobody and follows people around for years.

A test transaction costs one extra network fee and verifies the address, the network and the recipient’s crediting process before the main amount moves.

Keep every transaction hash in a note file with the order reference. It has resolved two queries instantly.

Went looking for human data on a mechanism everybody here asserts. Found preclinical work and one small study. That was clarifying.

Which nation, and which ICB if you are in England?

In England, specialist weight management services are commissioned locally, so eligibility criteria and waiting times differ by ICB. There is no single national threshold to quote.

How to write a special authorization request that gets approved.

Get the published criteria for your province. Answer them explicitly, in their own terms, in the same order. Attach what has been documented — what was tried, at what dose, for how long, with what outcome — as dates rather than narrative. Where a criterion cannot be met, have the prescriber say why in the criterion’s own language rather than around it.

Members here who have done this describe a much better hit rate than those who submitted a clinical letter that did not engage with the form. It is an administrative exercise, and treating it as one is the whole trick. None of which is advice — it is what the threads report.

Read the primary paper after arguing about the summary for a fortnight. The discussion section said almost the opposite of what the thread had concluded.

The mental model, in four steps, that makes the rest of this site legible.

One: gut hormones amplify the insulin response to food. Two: agonists at those receptors act peripherally on insulin secretion and gastric emptying, and centrally on appetite. Three: structural modification gives them a long half-life, so exposure is smooth and weekly. Four: tolerance develops to some effects and not to others.

From those four, most of what the experience boards report falls out: why the side effects cluster early, why they settle at a stable dose, why appetite reduction persists, and why the scale and the appetite move on different clocks.

Confirmations are the count of blocks built on top of the one containing your transaction. Until there are some, the transaction is not settled in any meaningful sense.

Careful — you have a plausible mechanism and no evidence that it is the operative one in the case you are describing.

Disagree. That is a preclinical finding in a rodent model and you are stating it as human pharmacology.

comment on [Question] how do you actually verify incretin in c/glp1science · 0 points · 6 months ago

The incretin effect is the observation that oral glucose provokes a larger insulin response than intravenous glucose at matched glycaemia, and the difference is mediated by gut hormones. That is the foundation the whole class sits on.

Careful, that address format belongs to a different chain and sending to it would not end well.

Disagreeing here: that is a network fee at a busy hour and it is not the supplier’s doing.

Right — mechanism gives you a direction. It never gives you an effect size and people use it as though it does.

The sequence that makes this boring, which is the goal.

Ask which networks are accepted before you order. Pick the one with a sensible fee at that hour. Paste the address rather than typing it and verify the first and last several characters. Check whether the chain requires a memo. Send a test amount if the total is large. Wait for confirmations before treating anything as done. Save the transaction hash with the order reference.

Seven steps, most of them seconds long, and between them they eliminate every failure mode that gets posted on this board.
